Why PaaS is a big challenge for the Operation team ?

We are testing some PaaS solutions, from a traditional IT company perspective we have seen some potential changes if a PaaS architecture is used in production:

Elasticity

In a PaaS environment we can not control all the cluster members, the members are temporary resources, manual changes will be lost when the cluster grow.

GIT

The Git service is a key component for source code and configuration files even for preproduction and production environments.

Security and Deployment standards

Operation teams must follow PaaS provider’s rules and tools.

DevOps

In order to maintain a PaaS infrastructure DevOps role is a must.

Deployment tools

Maven and Jenkins are key components in a PaaS infraestructure.

CMDB

How to build dynamically the application catalog?  it’s a big challenge, working with auto scaling application resources have a temporary nature.

Developement oriented

Initially PaaS was designed for development team, now PaaS providers are changing their strategies to production environments.

Maturity

PaaS is a young technology, currently no standards like JEE, but PaaS Providers are adopting Container/Docker specification.
